Valve Wants Steamworks on the Xbox 360

Valve Wants Steamworks on the Xbox 360

None

One of the biggest announcements to come out of E3 this year was that Valve would be bringing Steamworks to the PS3. This would allow for easily accessible DLC, community features, and automatic updates for Valve games on the console. This was great news for PS3 owners, but what about those with an Xbox 360? Apparently, Valve would like to bring Steamworks to the Xbox 360 as well.

Valve’s Erik Johnson issued some statements to CVG that confirm the company’s desire to work with Microsoft’s console as well. He states “Yeah. We think customers would like [Steam on Xbox 360],” continuing “We think, anyway. We’d love to try that.” So what’s stopping this from happening? It’s another case of the closed nature of Xbox Live getting in the way, similarly to the issues Square Enix is having trying to bring Final Fantasy XIV to the console. Will Microsoft eventually relax their regulations on Live, allowing companies to post their own content onto the service, or will things like Final Fantasy XIV and Steamworks continue to be forced into PS3 exclusivity?
