Valve to Bring User-Created PC Left 4 Dead 2 Mods to Xbox 360; Paying Authors for Content?

None

Unfortunately, Valve won’t be able to bring free content to the Xbox 360 version of Left 4 Dead due to the structure of Microsoft’s Marketplace. However, Valve might be able to do the next best thing with their next entry in the series.

In an interview with The Official Xbox Magazine, Valve’s Yasser Mailaka let it be known that the company is toying with the idea of porting the very best of future mods for Left 4 Dead 2 over to the Xbox 360, then paying their creators according to their success.

While none of this is set in stone, it’s easy to tell from the following comments that the statements were made in earnest. Moreover, Valve has a track record of going above and beyond to satisfy their fan base.

“One of the things I’m thinking about is how we work within that [Xbox Live] system,” said Valve’s Yasser Mailaka, “and one of the things I’d like to do is to allow these modules that are being released on PC to somehow integrate with Microsoft’s system.”

“We’ll have to filter them, we can’t allow any copyrighted materials, so it’s going to have to go through a process. But we’re hoping perhaps we can shepherd the really popular campaigns onto 360. And you know, if they are a paid system, perhaps that could go back to the authors. I think that would be a great story.”
