Every time they get a chance, Microsoft execs swagger onto the nearest stage and promise that the Xbox 360 will be able to view live TV at some point in the future. They typically refuse to give any details and beat around the bush regarding release dates. Well, it seems like they’re at it again out at the BUILD event in Anaheim. This time, however, they did preview the functionality for guests, and Steve Ballmer, Microsoft’s CEO, explained that MS was working with “dozens or hundreds of additional video content suppliers” to bring content to the platform. “Having all of that content is right on, it’s fantastic, but it brings a new challenge with it,” he continued. “Certainly we all know the frustrations of using guides and menus and controllers, and we think a better way to do all of this is simply to bring Bing and voice to Xbox. You say it, Xbox finds it.” ![]()
Obviously, television companies have not been ecstatic about video game consoles stealing their thunder, but if anyone can convince them, it’s the biggest software company on the planet. By Josh Engen |
