The open beta is an almost inevitable stage of MMO development at this point. The data gained by allowing players worldwide to stress test one’s servers is a tremendous benefit, as is the marketing opportunity gained by allowing prospective customers to get some hands on time with your product before they invest in it. It never hurts that, if they like it, they’ll tell their friends.
TERA Online’s beta weekend runs from April 20 through to April 23. It’s the traditional sort of open that allows most anyone who signs up to participate. Guild Wars 2’s event, though, runs later this month from April 27 to April 29 and is only open to those who have pre-ordered the title. By Shelby Reiches |
