DUST 514 Slowly Opens Its Beta

DUST 514 Slowly Opens Its Beta

None

The first-person shooter companion to EVE Online’s massively multiplayer space-faring, economic simulator is still a ways off, but it appears that CCP is finally nearing a point in development where it’s ready to let the layman take a gander at the product it’s creating. While the closed beta has already allowed some players in, CCP is about to open the doors to more of its fan base, allowing more players to experience the PS3 title ahead of its release.

The most interesting thing about DUST has never been its gameplay or even the fact that it’s set in the same universe as EVE Online from a storyline perspective, but that the title is designed as a real-time companion to the PC MMO. If a player bombards a planet upon which a battle is taking place in DUST 514, the aerial attacks will rain down from on high in the DUST client as well, allowing EVE players to support or disrupt their comrades and enemies on the ground.

Further, those who attended the EVE Fanfest convention, as well as a limited number of EVE Online players, will soon gain access to the game’s beta. It may not be the most popular MMO out there, but EVE is one that has shown much in the way of appreciation for its fans.
