Revealed in a press release that was published on Monday, May 19, Aeria Games, a leading publisher on free-to-play titles, announced the launch of the Beta for F.E.A.R. Online , a free-to-play iteration of the acclaimed horror series.
When F.E.A.R. Online was still in its Alpha stage, a lot of player feedback was taken into account to improve the game’s experience and to make sure that the title would be terrifying for all players when they entered into the game’s Beta.
Touted to be redesigned and adjusted to ensure that the gameplay made F.E.A.R Online into a truly unique first-person shooter, the game will feature new maps a new scenario and a redesigned crafting system–a system that’ll allow for players to create one-of-a-kind weapons, so the press release says.
The game kicks you of as part of a F.E.A.R. task force that’s been sent to investigate Armacham technology Corporation (ATC)’s unsettling experiments. F.E.A.R. Online’s gameplayer centers around several team combat modes that span over 10 ominous maps that are said to contain rather grotesque sights, such as still-twitching bodies hanging from meat hooks and walls smeared with blood.
Now, on paper, that doesn’t really sound all that grotesque . I mean, we are talking about a genre that’s been around for a while, and we’ve almost seen everything when it comes to blood, gore and giblets. So, it’ll all have to be down to the application and presentation of these “grotesque” sights, so as to offer something more than a blood-soaked carcass with a couple of appendages missing.
F.E.A.R. Online’s story continues on in cooperative scenarios that detail occurrences which are linked to the events of F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin .
Up to a maximum of four players can team up–as a squad, presumably–and fight work together to fend off ATC’s armed personnel as well as the monsters that’ll be lurking around in the corners.
F.E.A.R. Online’s Beta will begin on Monday, May 26, and beta keys will be handed out shortly. To sign up for the beta, you can register via the game’s official website .
