Announced in a press release published on Monday, May 19, Team17 makes a return to the scene with the reveal of its next installment to its long-running Worms series, Worms Battlegrounds –a 2D shooter that’s slated to launch on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One at the near-end of the month on Friday, May 30.
The game will be available both as digital download and as a boxed copy at certain retail stores, though the specifics as to what definition “certain” means in this context was not elaborated upon–presumably it’d appear at your local video game store nonetheless. Pricing information was also not detailed.
US PlayStation users unfortunately won’t have Worms Battlegrounds available as a digital download through the PlayStation Store until Tuesday, June 3.
According to the press release, the game will be among the first titles to be released under Microsoft’s ID@Xbox program, which is a program that is said to enable independent videogame developers to self-publish games digitally on the Xbox one.
Microsoft’s head of Xbox Phil Spencer confirmed that Worms Battlegrounds will be one of the first games to launch through this ID@Xbox program back in early-February of this year.
