Ys II: Ancient Ys Vanished – The Final Chapter is a Japanese action role-playing game (JRPG). The game was developed and published by Japanese studio Nihon Falcom, known for their JRPG series like The Legend of Heroes and Trails. It was first released on April 22, 1988 for the PC-8801. By 2003 it had released on multiple other consoles like the PC-9801, FM-7, X1, MSX2, Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), and MS-DOS.
Overall this JRPG received average reviews but did well enough to get remade and repackaged for several platforms under different names or collections. Like Ys II for the Nintendo DS and Ys I & II for Steam.
Ys II: Ancient Ys Vanished – The Final Chapter Premise
This game takes place exactly after the first game, Ys I: Ancient Ys Vanished. After recovering the six sacred books and defeating Dark Fakt, Adol Christin is transported to the floating island of Ys. There he meets a young woman named Lilia. After visiting her home village, Lance Village, he begins to uncover the island’s secrets and must rid it of evil.
Ys II: Ancient Ys Vanished – The Final Chapter Main Character
The main character of this game and the series as a whole is Adol Christin. He wear red clothes with metal armor on top. This silent 17-year-old swordsman is also known as Adol the Red since he is one of the very few characters to have red hair. Adol is a young adventurer with a penchant for being at the right place at the wrong time. But he can never leave those in trouble and will help in any way he can.
Players need to think about Adol’s stats like HP, attack power, and defense power. These determine your strength. And like the first game, it uses a “bump” combat system where players attack by running into enemies. How much damage enemies take is based off of Adol’s stats, Adol’s position, and the enemy’s position. Besides leveling up, players can also increase Adol’s strength score by equipping different swords.
Sword | Stats |
---|---|
Short Sword | STR +5 |
Long Sword | STR +10 |
Talwar | STR +20 |
Hyper Cutter | STR +40 |
Battle Sword | STR +60 |
Cleria Sword | STR +83 |

Ys II: Ancient Ys Vanished – The Final Chapter Cheat Code FAQ
Does Ys II: Ancient Ys Vanished – The Final Chapter have any cheat codes?
Yes! The cheat codes can give players a hidden message or open the sound test menus. And for players with a Game Genie or Pro Action Replay for their NES, there are codes for more health, infinite money, and more.
What are cheat codes?
Cheat codes are exploits that can change the game’s behavior and give players an advantage. They may help players move on to a different level, make the player completely immune to damage, or do some other action that would not take place without them.
They can also make the game more accessible and interesting to casual gamers or those who find its current state inaccessible.
What is a Pro Action Replay?
A Pro Action Replay is a cheat device that allows players to input different cheats and codes for multiple different consoles like the SNES, Game Cube, Commodore 64, GameBoy Advanced, and so much more. They manipulate the memory of the game code itself to allow cheats like infinite health, more powerful weapons, and even saving the game when it does not have a save mechanic.
What is a Game Genie?
A Game Genie is another cheat device, similar to the Pro Action Replay. They are available for many retro consoles like the NES, SNES, original Game Boy, Genesis, and more.
What makes a cheat device different?
Since developers implement traditional cheat codes in their games on purpose, not every game has them. But that does not mean players don’t want them. Hence, cheat devices were born. Devices like the Game Genie or Pro Action Replay allow players to do things the developer did not intend, while regular cheat codes are put there by the developers. They alter the game’s code to get it to work differently.
