More than 18 Billion Call of Duty Multiplayer Matches Have Been Played

Welp, it’s November, so you know what that means: the next-gen consoles will be launching in a few weeks, and it’s Bonfire Night! Hooray! Oh, and Call of Duty: Ghosts came out today too.

Call of Duty has racked up some pretty hefty statistics from its multiplayer. Like, seriously hefty statistics, to the point where I find it almost frightening!

A comprehensive infographic of Call of Duty’s multiplayer statistics was posted in the news section of CallofDuty.com , and lists off rather overwhelming numbers, contextualized and put into perspective of the real world.

Despite how big combined numbers of multiplayer statistics can get on any game, it always fascinates me nonetheless-especially when a real-world comparison is used to put it into perspective. It kind of puts me in awe when such infographics compile all this kind of information, and have it say something like, “Hey! Did you know that X many people played Y game for so many hours that it translates to Z years?”

It’s even more unquantifiable the bigger the numbers are, especially when real-life money is used as a comparison. It begs the fantastical question within me of whether or not video games could, quite literally, generate real-life currency for the world just by spending in-game money. That’d be an interesting movie concept: where the world is governed by gamers, and gaming is mandatory in order to sustain the global economy. Esports would certainly be a lot more bigger if that were the case, I think.
