Natal and Sony Wand Impact to Hinge on Quality of Launch Software

None

Square Enix president, Yoichi Wada, told London publication Financial Times that motion controls seem to him to be “quite limited” and that launch software will determine the shape of public opinion.

Wada told FT in an interview, “Present game machines already have a lot of functions: they are a network terminal, a Blu-ray or DVD player, and a gaming machine. Compared to these three pillars, the [new motion] controllers are quite limited, so the impact may be small. They are an extension of the gaming function.”

He continued, “ As a user interface it’s fantastic and I think it will become standard,” noting that designing games for motion controls is quite difficult, however. As such, he’s not sure an immediate impact will be made in terms of game-changing experiences.
