New Bioware MMO Based on KOTOR Universe?

None

According to claims from the website Primotechnology , BioWare is currently at work on an MMORPG based on the popular Knights of the Old Republic franchise.  Although nothing has been confirmed by BioWare, Primotechnology has posted the following statement on their website.

“A source close to BioWare confirmed to us today that the studio’s upcoming untitled massively-multiplayer online RPG will be centered around the Star Wars universe, specifically that of Knights of the Old Republic , which the developer released in 2003,” read the report. Primotechnology went on to point out the popularity of Star Wars: Galaxies–which was released in 2003 and drastically revised in 2005–is waning. “It’s estimated that the game now has fewer than 100,000 subscribers and less than 20,000 active players,” said the site without sourcing the numbers.

There are several factors that make the creation of a KotOR MMORPG plausible.  Bioware has acknowledged the existence of an MMORPG project, as they opened a satellite studio in early 2006 to prepare the project.  Lucasarts, the publishers that currently hold the rights to the Star Wars universe, also stated that they were approached by a developer about a new Star Wars MMORPG around the time that the new studio was announced.

While this news has yet to be confirmed by Bioware, Primotechnology states the game’s existence as fact on their website and says to expect the game in 2009.

More on this as it develops.
