Die-Hard Fans Are Remaking Star Wars KOTOR in Unreal Engine 4

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic totally reignited my love for Star Wars when I was younger, and turned me into a huge BioWare fan. It blew my mind that I could have so much fun in the Star Wars universe without actually taking control of Luke, Han, or Yoda. Walking the moral tightrope until fully committing to the light or dark side of the force was thrilling, and the storytelling and sense of pacing were spot-on. I loved that it took a while before you actually got to build your lightsaber, using staves and swords in the meantime. You felt more like a badass once you actually got to wield that trademark Jedi weapon.

The game meant so much to me, and to so many of you out there, which is why I’m really excited that some super-fans have teamed up to remake the KOTOR in Unreal Engine 4, and they’re calling it Knights of the Old Republic: Apeiron. This group of super-fans / developers call themselves Poem Studios, and they’re looking for more volunteers to help with the project. They need volunteers and not donations, because they can’t make any money off of this. That could be good or bad. Obviously it’d be great if this project is completed and we get to play a gorgeous new KOTOR for free. The reason they can’t charge for the game or accept donations for their work is because the IP is still owned by Disney. Disney is very protective of its intellectual property, so there’s a chance that we hear about a cease and desist notification that halts all momentum as this project gains publicity. Cross your fingers and toes, and stay tuned to CheatCC for future updates.
