New Etrian Odyssey Announced For 3DS

New Etrian Odyssey Announced For 3DS

Etrian Odyssey IV may have just landed in the West, but in Japan, the series is almost due for a sequel. Details leaked in this week’s issue of Famitsu indicate that the upcoming title will be called New Etrian Odyssey: Millenium Girl . Why “New Etrian Odyssey”? Because this is an updated remake of the original game.

This title is more just a graphical overhaul, though. Millenium Girl will feature a protagonist, who obtains pre-created party members such as Frederica Irving, a Gunner suffering from amnesia, and Arthur Charles, Alchemist extraordinaire. These classes are not set in stone, though, and may be shifted so that each character can learn different skills, each pulling form a limited pool of skill points.

This may initially seem in contrast to the purpose of the Etrian Odyssey series, which has always focused on hardcore dungeon-crawling, complete with cardboard cutout character, level grinding, and map-making, but New Etrian Odyssey: Millenium Girl is intended to be more accessible than previous entreis in the series. The game is expected to hit Japan on June 27, at a price of 6,279 yen. It is exclusive to the 3DS.
