New IPs Are Key to Future Success Says Take-Two

While it would be easy to kick back and rest on the comfortable laurels the GTA franchise has offered them, Take-Two Interactive believes the secret to longevity is to always be developing new IPs as well!

President Karl Slatoff recently expressed his desire to keep blazing a trail beyond their huge triple-A releases, touting they “…love putting out titles where we’ve got history, and they’re really, really big titles. Because they’re safe and they’re predictable and you know you can generate a lot of cash flow from them. At the same time, to ignore the opportunity of creating new IP, to not dedicate a substantial portion of your resources towards developing new IP, is the kiss of death for creative franchises.”

Slatoff would later state having a tunnel-vision approach with only a handful of franchises is not only stifling creatively, but is downright dangerous financially. “…god forbid, one of your core IP starts to deteriorate over time, then you’re in real trouble. So how do we actually manage that to avoid that deterioration or fatigue? One is doing come out with stuff every year.” He says.

Take-Two’s next huge release comes in the form of a revamped version of GTA V (easily their biggest franchise ever). Both Xbox One and PlayStation 4 editions will hit store shelves on November 18 th .
