New Professor Layton Gets Release Date

New Professor Layton Gets Release Date

None

Professor Layton is a very text-heavy game. Not only is the story pretty deep and involved, but its core puzzle mechanics also require lots and lots of reading. As a result, localization takes a very long time. So when every other DS franchise moved on to the 3DS, Layton’s fourth DS game was still undergoing heavy translation.

The game was originally called Professor Layton and the Devil’s Flute, but it’s been renamed Professor Layton and the Last Specter here in North America. It is pegged for an October 17th release date, so gamers experiencing Layton withdrawal won’t have to wait that much longer.

Oh, and as a special bonus for waiting so long, North American gamers are going to get to play Professor Layton’s London Life as soon as the game starts. This Earthbound-esque RPG take on the Layton franchise was originally an extra game you could unlock by beating the story mode of The Devil’s Flute. However, the North American version will have it unlocked out of box. Level -5 says this mode adds over 100 hours of additional content to the game. So if you really need to drown yourself in puzzles, this is easily the game for you.
