New Super Mario Bros. 2 Will Have DLC

New Super Mario Bros. 2 Will Have DLC

None

According to Nintendo, their brand new 2D Mario Platformer, New Super Mario Bros. 2, will be getting downloadable content in the form of “Coin Rush” challenge stages.

In Coin Rush mode, players will be tasked with collecting as many coins as humanly possible. Then, you get to post your coin collecting scores on internet leaderboards and share them with your friends. You can also challenge other players through StreetPass. There, you will play three random courses back to back to compare your scores. What do you get if you win? No one knows! Possibly more coins.

Reggie Fil-Aime has promised gamers that these levels are only conceptual now. They will be created completely after New Super Mario Bros. 2 ships. None of this on-disc (or on-kart) DLC stuff for Nintendo.

Players will be able to purchase New Super Mario Bros. 2 on August 19th both as a digital download and a full game at retail. Unfortunately, a demo was not playable at E3, but the game does look to include lots of classic Mario platforming, including Mario’s iconic Raccoon Suit.

However, the main theme of the game is coins, all the coins. Mario will have brand new power-ups like the coin block hat that generate coins as he runs. There is also the gold flower that turns him into Gold Mario, who fires gold fireballs that turn blocks into coins.

And yes, believe it or not, 100 coins still counts as an extra life.
