Ninja Turtles Games Coming From Activision

The latest incarnation of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, a 3D animated series on Nickelodeon, has officially been licensed to Activision. It’s a multi-year deal that is slated to produce three videogames linked to the show.

Back in the heyday of arcades, the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and its sequel, Turtles in Time, were some of the most iconic, quarter-munching brawlers of them all. They were built by Konami and ported to the NES and SNES respectively. The games disappeared for a few years, to return alongside the Fox Kids series, still produced by Konami. With the release of TMNT in theaters, though, the license shifted hands to Ubisoft. They built a mediocre action-platformer and a four-player fighter that contained more Rabbids than Turtles.

This is Activision’s first crack at the license, but if their history with licensed games is any indication, there’s more to fear than anticipation. Activision’s spotty oeuvre includes 007 Legends and a few Transformers games, which have been extremely hit-or-miss. There is always a small seed of hope, but with Activision’s track record it’s best to remain skeptical.
