This morning, Nintendo hosted a brief Nintendo Direct, focused entirely on plans for the Pokemon franchise for the rest of 2017. This included a new Switch game, a new set of 3DS games and a Virtual Console release. A lot happened in eight minutes!
Starting things off was the announcement of Pokken Tournament DX , an enhanced port of Wii U’s fighting game, Pokken Tournament . This new version of the game will take advantage of the Nintendo Switch’s feature set, as well as introduce five new additions to the roster. These are Decidueye, Croagunk, Darkrai, Scizor and Empoleon. Also added will be 3v3 fights, online ranked play and friends-only groups. This is set for release on September 22.
Next up is a bit of a shocker and/or disappointment for folks who were hoping for a third pillar game on Switch. Instead, Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon will be releasing for the 3DS. These will be deluxe versions of the previous Sun and Moon , with new features and Pokemon . This release is set for November 17.
Finally, the successful first-gen Pokemon release on Virtual Console is being followed up with Pokemon Gold and Silver , set to hit 3DS Virtual Console on September 22. This new port of Gold and Silver will be compatible with Nintendo’s Pokemon Bank service.
