Nintendo Finally Announces 3DS DLC

Nintendo Finally Announces 3DS DLC

None

Shortly after Nintendo slashed the price on the 3DS last summer, they announced that they were planning to implement a DLC service for the tiny console. The most recent system update finally added DLC support, but there was no word on when Nintendo actually planned on taking advantage of it.

Well, today the developer is expected to announce that they will be rolling out their first premium DLC pack. Don’t get too excited; it may or may not be available in the west. Fire Emblem: Awakening will reportedly be the first game to get the DLC treatment, but this title is currently only available in Japan and there’s no word on an American release date.

Even if Fire Emblem: Awakening doesn’t ever show up on western shores, Nintendo’s announcement will be a step in the right direction for their often backwards-facing marketing strategy. With the Vita just around the corner, Nintendo is going to need a more refined delivery approach for the 3DS if they want to stay on top of the portable gaming market.
