We have heard plenty about the PS3 and the Xbox 360, but much remains a secret still about the Revolution. But recently, in an interview with London’s The Guardian, Satoru Iwata, president of Nintendo, gave further hints about the direction Nintendo is taking in the next generation.
Iwata expressed that Nintendo has had concerns over the direction of the gaming industry. They believe that violent video games have begun to dominate the market and that game makers continue to push their limits. Nintendo believes the excessive violence is isolating many consumers.
“From a business point of view, it doesn’t make sense for us to follow suit (with other companies). We cherish our hardcore gamers, but we always try to attract as many people as possible and expand the existing gaming population,” Iwata explained.
Nintendo also believes that complicated controllers have caused many people to be discouraged from attempting games. “There are too many buttons and sticks on controllers for novice players, which is likely to discourage them from ever playing games at all. We want the Revolution’s controller to be relevant to everybody and we really want people to feel like they want to touch and play with it.”
Keep checking back as we continue to keep an eye on the direction that Nintendo decides to take in the console war.
