Gamers and the press both want to know more about Nintendo’s mysterious NX project. While we know very little about what it is, Nintendo President Tatsumi Kimishima is helping us to figure out what it isn’t; mainly, a sequel to the Nintendo Wii, or Wii U.
Citing issues with the Wii U, Kimishima explains that it’s hard to convince consumers to switch consoles when they see so many similarities between them. As such, the NX should be a unique departure that is easy to advertise to customers as something different from the Nintendo consoles they already own.
As for the name “NX”, Kimishima is just as clueless as we are. He is not of the belief that there is any meaning behind it and, if there was, former President Satoru Iwata didn’t get a chance to tell him before he unfortunately passed away earlier this year.
