Nintendo President Projects Huge Profits This Year

This year is going to be pivotal, if not definitive, for Nintendo. Its new partnership with DeNA will bear its first fruits in March with the release of Miitomo , a social experiment that I don’t think anyone is particularly psyched about. In addition to branching out into the mobile market, Nintendo is also expected to reveal its next home console, which we’re still calling the NX. While we still know next to nothing for sure about Nintendo’s next console, president of Nintendo Tatsumi Kimishima seems confident that both the NX and Nintendo’s mobile experiments will pay off big time.

In the wake of Nintendo’s surging stock value, Kimishima has recently reported some incredibly lofty projections for Nintendo’s financials this year. He stated that he plans to increase Nintendo’s operating profit to around 100 billion yen a year. That’s roughly quadruple what Nintendo did last year. I learned in my business classes in college that you always want to set “BHAGs,” or big, hairy, audacious goals; it’s the whole shoot for the moon and land in the clouds thing. Kimishima has definitely set an audacious goal for Nintendo this year, and I can only hope that he’s done so in firm confidence that they will achieve it – or at least come close.
