Nintendo Reopens Tips Hotline for NES Classic Launch

Nintendo Reopens Tips Hotline for NES Classic Launch

Okay, I honestly love this. To celebrate the launch of the NES Classic Edition next week, Nintendo is briefly reviving the Power Line, a phone service that used to offer tips and tricks for their most popular titles. It was a premium service that charged by the minute, and any kid that grew up in the ’90s (myself included) probably has at least one story involving an astronomical phone bill and an angry parent. Sorry, Mom, I didn’t know what I was doing! The same goes for when I called Capcom for advice on how to get through Whale Cape in Breath of Fire II because my child brain couldn’t figure out a certain puzzle . My finger slipped exactly ten times onto those specific phone numbers, obviously.

This time, the Power Line will direct players to free, pre-recorded tips for many of the games loaded on the NES Classic Edition. Nintendo has also prepared “behind-the-scenes stories” from some of the folks who once worked as Nintendo Game Play Counselors. Even if you know these games like the back of your hand, it might still be worth calling in to hear what they have to say. You can access the Power Line by dialing (425) 885-7529 on November 11, 12, and 13 from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. PT.

Even if you don’t call in, you can check out Nintendo’s social media channels over the course of next weekend, where they will be sharing passwords and other tricks. Or, if you live in New York City, you can head to the Nintendo Store in Rockefeller Plaza on November 10 for an ’80s-themed launch party. The NES Classic Edition arrives in North America on November 11.
