Nintendo Will Consider Linkle for Future Games

Linkle, a female version of Link from The Legend of Zelda , was designed for Hyrule Warriors Legends . While this game is a non-canonical, third party spinoff of Nintendo’s primary series, Nintendo producer, Eiji Aonuma has revealed that Nintendo might have plans to use the character in a more official capacity.

In an email interview with IGN, Aonuma stated “I’m sure we will keep her in mind when thinking about future titles.” Linkle is a character that fights using dual crossbows, so Aonuma went on to mention that he gave feedback during the production of Link’s Crossbow Training . This is the only other time in the series that Link has used a crossbow instead of his more traditional great bow.

While the gameplay might feel different, according to Aonuma, he feels that Linkle fits well within the Zelda universe in terms of design. It’s hard to disagree. She seems to possess the spirit of Link, while still bringing something new to the character. In a series revolving around a reincarnating “Hero of Time,” it would certainly be interesting to see this kind of  gender swap.
