Nintendo World Championships 2017 Announced

Nintendo World Championships 2017 Announced

After bringing the event back for E3 2015, Nintendo once again is gearing up for a Nintendo World Championships series. This time, it is taking place on October 7 in New York’s Manhattan Center Grand Ballroom. You know what that means. It’s time for qualifiers!

Between August 19 and September 10, specific Best Buys in eight locations will hold qualifying events separated by age group. The weird part: the qualifying game is Mario Kart 7 on the 3DS. Players age 12 and younger will play on the DS Luigi’s Mansion stage using Mario and the standard kart loadout. 13 and older will play on the GBA Bowser Castle 1 stage, using Bowser and the standard kart loadout. This is a Time Trial competition, with the best time in each age group in each store qualifying for the Nintendo World Championships 2017 event.

In addition to the competition, visitors to these participating Best Buys during the qualifiers will also be able to play demos for Super Mario Odyssey and Metroid: Samus Returns . My Nintendo members will also be able to check in via QR code and net 100 Platinum Points for the trouble. The first 200 at each location will also be given a My Nintendo pin.

In the main event in New York, the remaining competitors will play a series of games, old and new, and will be eliminated or continue through the bracket based on their performances.
