No PS3 Price Cut In The Cards

No PS3 Price Cut In The Cards

With the PlayStation 4 around the corner, suspicion has centered around the company’s current hardware foci: the PlayStation 3 and the handheld Vita. In particular, what is their future and can we expect changes in their pricing?

While Sony has now claimed that the Vita was intended from the start as a PS4 companion, they have been mum on any changes in its pricing. Where the PlayStation 3 is concerned, though, the publisher has been far more direct. “There’s no plans as yet,” said Fergal Gara, managing director at Sony’s UK office.

Gara cites issues with bringing the cost of PlayStation 3 production down. In light of a second redesign, though, that removes the slot-loading Blu-ray drive in favor of a slip-top model, and shrinks the overall unit down still further from its “slim” iteration, that assertion rings a bit hollow.
