Is it a convention? Not exactly. PRACTICE is an industry gathering, a ticketed event that does include time playing games and schmoozing with those in the game design business, but also offers lectures, panels, workshops, and discussions on the theory and day-to-day process of game design. The conference’s website is very clear that this is not about the business side of game design, the technology, or “breaking into” the industry: “If balancing the variables in a virtual economy or theorizing about the effect of rule changes on a player’s emotional experience sounds like fun to you, this is the conference you’ve been waiting for.”
PRACTICE will be held at the NYU Game Center, running from its reception the evening of October 28 to October 30. Tickets are $500. By Shelby Reiches |
