Codemasters Wants to Sell You Half a Game

None

While there are plenty of ideas floating around about how to increase profits in the video game industry, Codemasters CEO Rod Cousens seems to have everything all figured out. In an interview, he laid out a plan that would see consumers buying a game (he used Formula 1 as an example) with only half the content on the disc. The rest of the content would have to be downloaded or unlocked. Continuing with the F1 example, Cousens said you could access six tracks on the disc, and as you progressed through the game you’d have to purchase the missing content. Although the plan sounds like a good idea from a business standpoint, selling DLC that is mandatory if you want to finish a game sounds like a pretty shady practice to us.
