Want something substantial, yet free, to play this weekend? Grab Square Enix’s Final Fantasy Portal app for iOS and Android devices. I’m not recommending it for the free-to-play Triple Triad game within it, but because the original Final Fantasy is being given away within the app until August 31.
Here’s how to claim your copy. You install the Final Fantasy Portal on your phone or tablet. Then, you click the banner offering you the first Final Fantasy for free. There’s a big button that says “Start Game.” Clicking it will go through a procedure where you “buy” the game for $0.00. That’s it. It’s yours.
There are two minor catches. The first is that it’s linked to the Final Fantasy Portal app. You’ll always have to launch that first, then click the Game tab on the homescreen to find your game. Also, only the English version is available for free. Other than that, it’s a great deal and you should go get it.
And Triple Triad , because that’s great too.
