Paramount and Dreamworks Support HD-DVD

None

A surprise announcement from Paramount and DreamWorks Studios has revealed that both companies will exclusively support HD-DVD in their creation of high-definition home videos.  Paramount subsidiary MTV Films is also included in this exclusive HD-DVD support.

The only omissions to this exclusivity deal are films that are directed by Steven Spielberg, all of which will be released on both formats.

Chairman and CEO of Paramount Pictures Brad Grey is confident about the change and had the following to say.  “The combination of Paramount and DreamWorks Animation brings a critical mass of current box office hits to consumers with a line-up of live action and animated films that are perfect for HD DVD. Part of our vision is to aggressively extend our movies beyond the theater, and deliver the quality and features that appeal to our audience. I believe HD DVD is not only the affordable high quality choice for consumers, but also the smart choice for Paramount .”

After the news that Blockbuster would only carry Blu-ray titles, the future looked bleak for HD-DVD.  However, this news gives the format some important exclusives, including movies such as The Matrix, The Transformers, and Shrek the Third.
