Pokémon Legends: Arceus is a 2022 action RPG developed by Game Freak, and published by the duo of Nintendo and The Pokémon Company. Released exclusively on Nintendo Switch, the game is a spinoff of the mainline Pokémon games, with unique gameplay mechanics that you can’t find anywhere else in the series. Despite changing what players expect from Pokémon, the game was still a hit, selling millions of copies worldwide.
Pokémon Legends: Arceus Premise
Pokémon Legends: Arceus infuses open-world fun into the traditional series formula. The game is set long before the events of the main series, before much of civilization has been established. This allows for the open world to be fully explorable, with the map split into different biomes. When players enter a new area, they set up camp, which becomes their home base for that area.
As always, catching Pokémon is the name of the game here. Rather than Pokémon hiding in the wild, they roam the land, allowing players to see what they are before an encounter. Players have to be careful around them, as they can attack if they get too close! The game adapts to its new-found freedom, and lets players unlock ridable Pokémon which gives them ways to travel via land, water, or sky.
While players can complete side quests, the main story is the star attraction here. That said, there’s enough to do in the open world that you can simply ignore it for as long as you’d like, showing just why it’s the most free Pokémon game to date.
Pokémon Legends: Arceus Main Characters
Since Pokémon Legends: Arceus takes place so many years prior to the mainline game, you won’t find any familiar human faces here. The game introduces an entirely new cast, with the only returning elements being the Pokémon themselves. That said, here are the main characters you’ll find in Pokémon Legends: Arceus.
- Rei/ Akari: Rei and Akari are the male or female protagonists of Pokémon Legends: Arceus, depending on player choice. At just 15 years old, Rei or Akari must set out on an adventure to discover all the Pokémon in the Hisui region.
- Arceus: This legendary Pokémon plays a key role in this title, serving as the creator deity of the universe. Arceus is the one that sends the player off on their adventure, setting the game’s plot in motion.
- Professor Laventon: Professor Laventon encounters the protagonist at the beginning of the game, and hands them their starter Pokémon, as is tradition for the series. He then pops up throughout the game, rewarding the player for the number of Pokémon encountered throughout the game.
Pokémon Legends: Arceus Titles in the Series
Ever since Pokémon debuted all the way back in 1996, fans have been obsessed with the franchise. To meet the demand, there have been plenty of titles in the series over the years. Most years even have multiple releases, either mainline or spinoff. Regardless, the games continue to sell like hot cakes. It seems gamers aren’t anywhere close to being sick of Pokémon yet, and it will be around for many years to come.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus Cheat Codes
The Pokémon series has never really embraced the idea of official cheat codes. It has always been down to third parties to implement them, and it’s exactly the same with Pokémon Legends: Arceus.
Because it isn’t possible to emulate the game yet, and you can’t use Action Replay cartridges like you could with the DS / GBA Pokémon games, finding cheats that actually work for the game is near impossible. If you’re set on using them, you’ll have to use an injector such as EdiZon for Nintendo Switch. It’s a complex process that we wouldn’t recommend unless you really know what you’re doing.
In terms of finding the cheats themselves, we’d recommend this set from GBATemp.
