By the time Nintendo and The Pokémon Company released Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver in 2009, the franchise had taken the world by storm for more than a dozen years. Even today, the Pokémon games remain some of the most popular in the world. Pokémon HeartGold is a Nintendo DS remake of Pokémon Gold for Game Boy Color, released to critical and player acclaim.

Pokémon HeartGold Premise
Pokémon HeartGold explores the Johto region, giving you access to Kanto after you beat the Pokémon League Champion. You play as either Ethan or Lyra, and you start in New Bark Town. There, Professor Elm provides you with your choice of starter Pokémon: Chikorita, Cyndaquil, or Totodile. After you make your choice, you explore Johto in hopes of collecting the region’s eight Gym Badges and defeating Team Rocket.
Pokémon HeartGold Main Characters
The region of Johto is full of new friends. Most of them have been carried over from the original Pokémon Gold, and they all bring charm and flavor to the game.
- Professor Elm: Your main professor in the game. He specializes in breeding Pokémon and studies unusual abilities, but he can be a bit absentminded.
- Silver: Your primary rival and the son of Team Rocket’s leader, Silver is a sore loser and he starts out cruel to the Pokémon he trains. You meet him after he steals one of Professor Elm’s starter Pokémon.
- The Gym Leaders: The eight gym leaders each specialize in a different type of Pokémon. They are spread around Johto, with each one giving you a badge once you defeat them.
- Team Rocket: Three years after their defeat, a few of Team Rocket’s old members are causing trouble in Johto. They kidnap and brainwash Pokémon, forcibly evolve Magikarp into Gyarados, and generally cause mayhem.
- The Elite Four: These trainers (Will, Koga, Bruno, and Karen) each specialize in a different type of Pokémon. They’ll only face you once you’ve collected all eight Gym Badges.
- Red: Formerly champion of the Indigo League, Red trains on the peak of Mt. Silver. He is the strongest Pokémon trainer you can fight in the game.

Pokémon HeartGold Cheat Codes
To use these Pokémon HeartGold cheats, you will need a third-party device called an Action Replay. Entering too many cheat codes with an Action Replay can freeze your game or corrupt your save file, and entering an incorrect code can spawn a Bad Egg.
