Pokemon Black Cheats & Cheat Codes for Nintendo DS

Pokemon Black is an RPG developed by GameFreak and released in 2010. The game would prove to be a massive success, selling 11.5 million copies and moving more units than any other DS game for that year. Pokemon Black would eventually go on to sell over 24 million copies, making it one of the most successful games in the series. GameFreak releases each Pokemon game in pairs. Accordingly, they released Pokemon Black alongside Pokemon White, but time has proven that Black is the more popular of the two.

The game’s introduction of a new roster and its lack of almost all original Pokemon has made it controversial among fans. That said, though some fans dislike the game because of its Pokemon roster, the title is considered to be one of the best games in the series in terms of plot.          

Pokemon Black Premise

Pokemon Black follows the central premise of other games in the series. Initially, players choose from two starting characters, Hilbert or Hilda, and battle their way to becoming a Pokemon master. The starting Pokemon for this generation include Snivy (Grass-type), Tepig (Fire-type), and Oshawatt (Water-type). The game also includes friends and rivals for the players to battle against, Cheren and Bianca. However, unlike past titles that had one rival who picked a starting Pokemon with a type advantage against the players, Bianca will choose a Pokemon with a type weakness.

The goal is to journey throughout the Unova region. Interestingly, Unova is modeled after New York City. Most in-game cities in Pokemon take inspiration from Japanese cities. Players will want to obtain eight Gym Badges and challenge the Elite Four and the Champion to become a Pokemon Master. Further, the game also includes enemies in the form of Team Plasma, a group dedicated to freeing Pokemon whom they believe trainers are abusing.

Pokemon Black Main Characters

Hilbert/Hilda: These two are the main characters of Pokemon Black. Both characters live in Nuvema Town along with their childhood friends, Cheren and Bianca. Depending on who the player chooses, the opposite character will appear in the Battle Subway as an NPC to aid players in the Multi-Train.

Cheren: Cheren is the childhood best friend of Hilbert/Hilda. He has a deep knowledge of Pokemon which can help the player along their journey. He will always choose the Pokemon with a type advantage over the player, giving him a slight edge during rival matches. 

Bianca: Bianca is also the childhood friend of Hilbert/Hilda. Her story follows her journey to becoming a Pokemon scientist as she determines that she isn’t strong enough to be a trainer. Bianca will always choose the Pokemon that is weak to the player.

Professor Juniper: Professor Juniper is a Pokemon scientist in Nuvema Town who focuses on Pokemon origins. She gives the player their starting Pokemon, a Pokedex, and teaches them how to capture Pokemon.           

N: N is the puppet ruler of Team Plasma. Ghetsis adopted N as a child and taught him about Pokemon, warping his views. N grew up believing that all Pokemon need to be freed back into the wild. 

Ghetsis: Ghetsis is the true leader of Team Plasma and the villain of Pokemon Black. His control of Team Plasma was purely for his own power. His ultimate goal was to convince trainers, through speeches or by force, to release their Pokemon back into the wild and free them.      

Alder: Alder is the Champion of Unova in Pokemon Black. He appears throughout the game to help the player along with other NPCs.

Pokemon Black Cheat Codes

Increased Walking Speed

These cheat codes can be entered into Action Replay to alter the game’s walking speed. As a result, this cheat will help speed up the game and get players to their location faster. Players who use a bike may notice that they travel too fast for the game to handle, causing some events to be skipped over entirely.

Walk Through Walls

These cheats allow players to walk through walls to skip or avoid events or random battles. Additionally, this cheat will also make the game faster as players can skip entire areas. Once the codes are entered, press L+A on your device to turn on the cheats. Press L+A again to turn them off.

Complete Pokedex

For players who want a completed Pokedex, this cheat will give them access to all 649 Pokemon. Press Select on your device to enable the cheat.

Catch Trainer’s Pokemon

This cheat helps take any Pokemon you wish. Accordingly, think of this cheat as a Masterball but stronger. The Pokemon that trainers use cannot typically be captured, but this cheat allows them to take the Pokemon with a 100% success rate.

Wild Pokemon Encounters

If you don’t wish to steal Pokemon from trainers but can’t find a wild one you are after, this cheat will give you access to any Pokemon in the game. Press Select before entering the tall grass to turn on the cheat. Afterward, you should get the encounter with the Pokemon entered.

While entering the codes, change YYY to the code for each Pokemon below.

No Random Battles

Tired of running into wild Pokemon when all you want to do is get back to town? Enabling No Random Battles will ensure that you never have that problem again. Once you enter the code, press Select to toggle it.

Shiny Pokemon

Enabling this cheat will ensure that all battles are against Shiny Pokemon. The rate for Shiny Pokemon is 1 to 8192, which will speed up the process significantly.

No Trainer Battles

When this is turned on, no trainers will attempt to fight you, making getting wherever you need to go easier and faster.

Pokemon Nature Modifier

These codes will change the nature of the next Pokemon you battle. Once entered, use L/R on the status screen to cycle through natures. Nature can vary from calm to lonely to rash.

Unlimited PP

Unlimited PP will ensure that your Pokemon never runs out of power points after using a move. This means no more watching PP status during battles.

Unlock All TM/HM

A TM is a Technical Machine that teaches a Pokemon a specific move. HM, or Hidden Machine, also teaches Pokemon a specific move. The difference is that TM moves can be forgotten, while HM moves require a service to remove them.

Infinite Master Balls

Master Balls are rare PokeBalls that can catch any wild Pokemon with a 100% success rate. While you can only get two in Pokemon Black, this cheat allows for an unlimited amount.

Unlock Every Item

After entering this code, you will receive the maximum amount of each item in your inventory.

Infinite Money

This code will give you the maximum amount of money allowed. Additionally, you can enter this code again if you ever run out of funds. This allows you to buy anything you want without ever running low on funds again.

Invulnerability

This code will make your Pokemon never drop below maximum health while in battle. Afterward, they will never be defeated in another battle again.

Shared EXP

Sharing EXP will give every Pokemon you have the same amount of experience per battle. While this item can be found in-game, this cheat ensures that you have it from the beginning of the game. Past Pokemon games didn’t feature this item at all, making cheats that much more useful.

Infinite Healing Items

This code will place the maximum amount of healing items in your inventory to keep your Pokemon alive during battle.

All Badges

This cheat forgoes the need to battle gym leaders. As a result, using this cheat will allow players to skip major sections of the game.

All Berries

Entering this code will give you the maximum amount of each berry in your inventory. Berries have a wide range of uses and are very powerful and valuable.
