Pokémon FireRed was a remake of the original Pokémon Red and Blue, released on Sept. 9, 2004. It was paired with Pokémon LeafGreen and was developed by Game Freak for the Game Boy Advance. FireRed was a nostalgic revisit to the original Pokémon with updated graphics, new features, and additional Pokémon to catch and train.
Pokémon is known for some legendary exploits, but no cheat codes were established at launch. Using any cheat codeshas to be with an emulator of the game, not on the original.
The Pokémon Company had a rather apt description:
“Get set to return to where it all started — Pokémon FireRed Version and Pokémon LeafGreen Version head back to the Kanto region, the home of Pokémon Red and Pokémon Blue. Thanks to the capabilities of the Game Boy Advance system, the locales, Pokémon, and animations are greatly improved since the last installment.”
Pokémon FireRed Main Characters
Unlike current game installments, you play as yourself, getting a chance to name yourself and your rival. But for the show, these characters’ names are set:
- Player Character (Red/Green/Leaf): The protagonist of the game, the player character embarks on a quest to become a Pokémon Champion.
- Blue/Gary Oak: Blue is the player character’s rival and childhood friend. He serves as a recurring opponent throughout the game.
- Professor Oak: A prominent figure in the Pokémon world, Professor Oak is the respected Pokémon Professor who provides the player and their rival with their first Pokémon. He may or may not have a secret relationship with the protagonist’s mom.
Then there were a group of gym leaders and elite four members:

Pokémon FireRed Cheat Codes
Like many Game Boy Advance titles, you’ll need a cheating device like Gameshark and Action Replay. Then all you’ll have to do is enter the master code, which is as follows for Pokémon FireRed, “3AF85ACA C4D18CEC 8E883EFF 92E9660D.”
Then you’ll enter the codes below. For those playing on a GBA Emulator, there are a few more steps. Open your emulator, go to files, and select Pokémon Fire Red ROM. Select Cheats then Cheats List, before seeing Gameshark. Select Gameshark, enter the code from below and you should be good to go.
Just be forewarned, you can crash your game while running too many cheats, so don’t run more than two or three at a time. Here are a few of the more popular choices.

Pokémon FireRed Cheat Codes FAQ
How do you use Pokémon FireRed cheat codes?
You have two options: a Gameshark or Action Replay for a GBA, or your Emulator should have access to a cheat menu.
Does the Mew glitch work in FireRed?
Mew had a one time event back in 2006, which allowed players to catch Mew, but now you can only trade for it. Some believe there is a specific glitch that can help players earn Mew, but it doesn’t work in FireRed.
What is the master code in Gameshark?
This code must be entered first before any other cheat codes will work:

Is it illegal to use cheats?
This is a grey area. Some games have cheat codes built into them so players can use them without repercussion. Others use illegal cheats. These are somewhere in the middle since it’s using an emulator or third-party application to allow you to cheat. I’m sure The Pokemon Company isn’t a fan, but they can’t do anything about it.
