Pokemon Diamond is a role-playing game developed by GameFreak, released in 2006. It was released alongside Pokemon Pearl and is the fifth best-selling Pokemon game in the franchise. However, it’s criticized for its slower story pace, lackluster region, and poorly executed antagonists. The game is the basis for Pokemon Platinum which expanded and improved its features that fans complained about. Despite fan feedback over the years, the game still ranked highly among critics and has a supportive fan base.  

Pokemon Diamond Premise

Pokemon Diamond follows the format of all Pokemon games. Players begin their journey by choosing their character, either Lucas or Dawn, and starting Pokemon, Turtwig, Chimchar, or Puplup. From there, players will travel around the Sinnoh region, collecting and battling Pokemon. Players must defeat each town’s Gym Leader to challenge the Elite Four. Beating the Elite Four will make you the Pokemon Champion. Along the way, players will face off against their rivals, Barry and Team Galactic. Team Galatic wants to use the legendary Pokemon Palkia and Dialga to recreate the universe to make their leader, Cyrus, a God. 

Pokemon Diamond Main Characters

Lucas/Dawn: Lucas/Dawn is the main protagonist in Pokemon Diamond, depending on the gender you select. They are from Twinleaf Town and have always dreamed of catching a legendary Pokemon. After being attacked by a wild Starly and saved by Professor Rowan’s Pokemon, they set off to become a Pokemon Trainer. At the same time, their ex-best friend and rival, Barry, set off on his own adventure to beat you.    

Barry: Barry was the childhood friend and rival of Lucas/Dawn. He is a very impatient and dedicated Pokemon Trainer. Barry will always choose the starting Pokemon that is strongest against the players. Depending on his choice, his team will be filled out according to the type.     

Professor Rowan: Professor Rowan lives in Sandgem Town and specializes in Pokemon evolution. He offers the player and Barry their first starting Pokemon. Also, after the player meets him in Sandgem, he will gift them a Pokedex and a TM27.   

Team Galactic: Team Galatic is the villainous organization and antagonist in Pokemon Diamond. They have high ambitions and are trying to destroy and remake the entire Pokemon universe. The organization is run by Cyrus, who wants to summon the legendary Pokemon Palkia and Dialga. Once he has control of them, he can recreate the universe and make himself a living God that rules over it.
