PAX 2011: Quantum Conundrum Sounds Like Portal, Only Weirder

None

A few days ago, we learned that one of the developers behind Portal and Left 4 Dead, Kim Swift, is developing a “quirky” new game. At the time, details about the game were sparse, but we got our hands on a little more information now.

Yesterday, Swift explained that the new game, called “Quantum Conundrum,” is a puzzle game in the same vein as Portal. In the game, your crazy uncle has invented a few device that can send objects into alternate dimensions. In Quantum Conundrum, “everything is a portal,” says swift. Players are tasked with solving puzzles by “phasing” objects in and out of these dimensions.

Each dimension purportedly has a different property. For instance, one dimension can slow down time, one reverses gravity and there is at least one whose property hasn’t be divulged yet.

It sounds like Swift has a definite grasp on what makes a puzzle game interesting, and this one a theme that’s similar enough to Portal to give it a broad-based appeal. No word yet on a release date, but I’m sure we’ll all be keeping our eyes open.
