PSN Gets A Bit Odder Next Quarter

PSN Gets A Bit Odder Next Quarter

None

At the tail end of 2011, PSN was graced with an HD remake of Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath. Perhaps the most oddball entry in a series predicated on the very ideas of being “strange” and “odd,” it mixed third person action-platforming with first-person shooting. The game’s arsenal of critter-based ammunition holds up as one of the most varied and distinctive in gaming.

Now, the other original Xbox Oddworld game is coming to the PSN. Oddworld: Munch’s Oddysee was a more direct sequel to the earlier Abe’s Oddysee and Abe’s Exoddus titles on the original PlayStation. Munch’s Oddysee features Mudokon savior Abe, but also the second playable character of Munch, a single-footed amphibian that pounces about. The HD remake of Munch’s Oddysee is slated for release on the PSN, for both the PS3 and Vita, in Q2 2012. Further, both are coming to PC.

Oh, and developer Just Add Water has revealed that they’re also working on an HD remake of the original, side-scrolling Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee. There’s talk of “2.5D.” Here’s hoping they can adequately preserve the charm of the title’s original sprites.
