Quake V Goes Gothic?

Quake V Goes Gothic?

None

To date, there have been four entries in the numbered Quake series of first-person shooters. Of them, three have provided an adventure-based single-player experience and only two of those were directly related in plot. Quake 3 is famous for its engine, which was initially used for an almost exclusively multiplayer title, where even the single-player game was simply a tournament. Quakes II and IV told the story of the Strogg, an alien menace one was tasked with defeating in vicious gun battles on their home planet. The original Quake, however, aimed more for gothic horror, with Doom-esque zombies and blood-stained otherworldly abominations.

id’s John Carmack has expressed a desire to return to this aesthetic in a new Quake title. “We are at least tossing around the possibilities of going back to the bizarre, mixed up Cthulhu-ish Quake 1 world and rebooting that direction,” he said.

No word, yet, on whether the lightning gun would be making an appearance.
