Enemy Territory: Quake Wars Preview for PC

Enemy Territory: Quake Wars Preview for PC

This may very well be the last FPS you ever need…

April 12, 2007 – Making its preliminary debut at Electronic Entertainment Expo 2005, Enemy Territory: Quake Wars was originally slated for a 2006 release. However, the much anticipated title was pushed back to its current June 2007 release date so that developer Splash Damage could spend more time improving the uniqueness of its gameplay and maps, including the distinctive looks of indoor and outdoor environments. What does this mean to gamers you ask? In a nutshell, this game is nothing short of visually spectacular! And using the cutting-edge MEGATEXTURE™ technology means that you won’t need to sacrifice a single ounce of pretty to keep your videocard from screaming in agony.

Set in the near future of the Quake universe and in the middle of all out war between the human Global Defense Force (also known as the GDF) and alien invaders known as the Strogg – a race that made it’s debut in Quake II, each of whom have a face only a mother could love and even she must cringe from time to time. ETQW takes the first person shooter to a new level with RPG-ish elements such as classes and leveling to gain better rewards. Classes include soldier, medic, engineer, field ops, and covert ops for the GDF. Aggressor, technician, constructor, oppressor, and infiltrator make up the side of the Strogg. Each job has specific purposes and abilities. The soldier/aggressor classes will prove to be the most versatile, their usefulness changing with their equipped weapons, becoming shock troopers by equipping the GDF Assault rifle or as Anti-vehicle troops by equipping the rocket launcher. Medics/technicians have the ability to drop med packs and revive fallen comrades while engineers/constructors are crucial characters that repair damaged vehicles and weapon emplacements, build defensive anti-vehicle and anti-personnel gun turrets, and drop explosive mines. For those unsubtle types, field ops and oppressor classes have the ability to call in long range artillery strikes while those with a desire for more stealthy play can choose to be covert ops/infiltrators and take out your opponents with guerilla tactics such as long range sniper fire, laying down radar emplacements to detect approaching adversaries or take the appearance of a fallen foe to infiltrate the enemy ranks.

To make the missions manageable and a little more fun, you’re sure to enjoy the arsenal of weapons for your fragging pleasure. The GDF will have access to conventional weapons such as assault rifles, pistols, and of course, the ever popular rocket launcher which allows you to lock on to vehicles and gun emplacements when zoomed in. The Strogg use slightly less conventional weapons, many of which were featured in 2005’s Quake IV such as the hyperblaster minigun, the lightning gun (which fires a continuous stream of electricity), the nailgun (which now fires bursts of nails like a shotgun), and the dreaded railgun sniper weapon, which has an adjustable long-range zoom lens. In addition to the many weapons, there will also be several different vehicles, for example the Titan Tank for the GDF which is both easy to pilot and has an easy to learn and use weapon system.

Unlike most multiplayer First Person Shooters, Quake Wars promises coherent team play instead of the general chaos co-operative play usually ends up with. This will be accomplished with mission objectives that rely on the presence of a particular class in the team. For instance, on one map your objective is to blow up an enemy installation, but in order to get there you have to protect the engineer while he repairs the bridge. But in order to destroy that enemy installation you must have at least one soldier to plant the explosive charge. With support for up to 32 total players this multiplayer Sci-fi shooter is the perfect environment for you and your buddies to go in and lay some serious smack-down on those Strogg invaders or switch sides and crush the puny human resistance. Don’t have any friends? That’s okay too, with its highly advanced A.I. who needs friends! A.I. allies will follow the specifics of their jobs, meaning a bot controlled engineer will repair and build when needed while a bot medic will drop med kits and revive fallen allies when they’re encountered. But don’t expect your enemies to be pushovers; using the same intuitive A.I., they’ll perform their jobs and do everything they can manage to stop you from achieving your objective.

All in all the game will stick to the fast pace and shallow learning curve that First Person Shooters are known and loved for, allowing even the most inexperienced players to excel quickly into veterans of the genre.

Features:

  • MISSION-BASED COMBAT: Enemy Territory: Quake Wars pits teams against each other on a real battlefield, with military-style objectives (e.g. take out a key defense, destroy a target). As a result, everyone always knows where the action is – no more wandering.
  • DEEP TEAMWORK: With “asymmetrically-designed” classes (10 in total), each team in Enemy Territory: Quake Wars provides a unique gameplay experience. The GDF and Strogg are two distinct armies with different strategies and tactics. Players are specifically rewarded for working as a team to accomplish mission objectives.
  • INDIVIDUAL ROLE-PLAY: Using class-specific capabilities, players can be the linchpin of an entire operation, building a necessary bridge or infiltrating enemy defenses to enable a decisive missile strike. Players protect and revive each other when injured, so they can complete critical tasks for the team.
  • UPGRADEABLE CAPABILITIES AND STATS: Over the course of a multi-mission campaign, players earn experience and promotions, and gain new capabilities to help the team. In addition, stats are globally recorded for players to track their rank and prestige in the Enemy Territory community.
  • BROAD ACCESSIBILITY: Enemy Territory: Quake Wars goes beyond providing basic tips for new players. It also includes several innovations that open the game to a broader audience, including:

    – Solo Assignment System: Automatically assigns players individual missions, so new entrants always know what they need to do.
    – Simplified Pilot Controls: With easier controls, air vehicles are not restricted to advanced players.
    – Level Playing Field: While players earn promotions and stats every time they play, unlocked capabilities are specific to the campaign. Every player starts the campaign at the same level.

  • MEGATEXTURETM TECHNOLOGY: id Software, known for games using cutting-edge technology, has done it again. The revolutionary Megatexture™ technology allows battlefields to extend to the horizon, with over a square mile of unique terrain at unprecedented detail.
