Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart Cheats & Cheat Codes for PlayStation 5, Windows, and More

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is a 2021 third-person shooter platformer title developed by Insomniac Games and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. Although the game was originally released as an exclusive for the PlayStation 5, it eventually made its way to PC in 2023, making full use of the power of the platform.

The game was acclaimed by critics, boasting an 88 on Metacritic, and fans responded in turn. It went on to sell 1.1 million copies within the first month of release, with many more in the couple of years after. It remains the most recent release in the franchise, but these strong sales indicate we might see more of Ratchet and Clank in the years to come.

If you’ve played any game in the Ratchet & Clank series, you’ll be familiar with the broad gameplay loop featured in Rift Apart. The strafing gunplay and collection of bolts remain key elements, alongside the upgrading of weapons and gadgets by collecting Raritanium. Along the way, you’ll meet a variety of different enemies, who use different attacks to change your approach in combat. On the surface, it’s standard Ratchet & Clank fare.

However, there’s one key story and gameplay mechanic that really makes Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart stand out from the rest of the series – interdimensional travel. At the start of the game, you’re given the Rift Tether, a tool that allows you to travel instantly between planets and dimensions, even during combat! It’s a cool feature in theory, but the amazing execution of it in-game really elevates Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart to another level. Fighting a boss and fleeing to another planet? That’s cool – they’ll just follow you through a portal of their own.

This interdimensional element allows you to return to planets seen in previous games, showing how they look without Ratchet and Clank’s interference. It also introduces Rivet and Kit, dimensional counterparts to Ratchet and Clank. These characters offer a twist on the traditional formula, giving you more to care about beyond your own dimension.

Ultimately, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart adds enough to remain fresh, even for long-time fans of the franchise. It’s a formula that doesn’t need a huge overhaul, and Insomniac Games’ approach of iterating slowly with each release is a winning one.

The Ratchet & Clank series is unique in that despite having so many releases over the years, it has generally stuck to the same cast of characters throughout. In Rift Apart, that remains true… sort of. Adding an alternate dimension complicates matters, with every character having their own interdimensional counterpart. It certainly freshens things up for the series!

Here are the main characters you’re going to meet in Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart:

  • Ratchet: The primary protagonist of the game, Ratchet is everyone’s favorite Lombax. A brave hero with a hand for mechanics, Ratchet finds himself on an interdimensional adventure in this particular title.
  • Clank: Clank is Ratchet’s loyal robot companion who accompanies him on every single adventure. Now considered alongside his friend to be a galactic hero, Clank is unintentionally roped into a quest far larger than anything he’s faced before.
  • Rivet: Rivet is a new character in Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, introduced as Ratchet’s dimensional counterpart. A Lombax like Ratchet, Rivet has established herself as a member of the Resistance in the fight against her dimension’s Emperor Nefarious.
  • Kit: Kit is another new character, serving as Clank’s dimensional counterpart. When we meet Rivet, she hasn’t met Kit yet, allowing their relationship to blossom throughout the game, just like Ratchet and Clank’s all those years ago.
  • Dr. Nefarious: Dr. Nefarious is one of the main antagonists for the entire franchise, making his return in Rift Apart. After trying to crash Ratchet and Clank’s big day at the Festival of Heroes, he finds himself trying to rule a brand-new dimension. There’s only one problem…
  • Emperor Nefarious: Emperor Nefarious is Dr. Nefarious’ more successful dimensional counterpart. He rules his dimension with an iron fist, with only the Resistance to challenge him. His power is a source of insecurity for Dr. Nefarious.

Over the years, the Ratchet & Clank series has established itself as one of the killer apps for the PlayStation. Since their debut in 2002, Ratchet and Clank have become known as one of gaming’s great dynamic duos. Even just in the 3D platformer genre, you’ve got Jak and Daxter, as well as Spyro and Sparx. Ratchet and Clank belong among those guys in gaming history.

In recent years, the series hasn’t been as active as it was in the early days. Releases have become sporadic, with development time taking longer for modern titles. Despite this, the quality has only gone up. Both the 2016 remake and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart have been received well by fans and critics, reestablishing the series in the mainstream.

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart does have a good selection of cheats for you to use, but you have to unlock them first. Across the game, there are 25 Gold Bolts for you to collect. For every Gold Bolt that you collect, you unlock a new cheat in Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. Each affects the gameplay in fun and interesting ways, with a couple of them even giving you an advantage.

We’ve got the lowdown on how to unlock all of the Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart cheats:

Wrench Skins (1 Gold Bolt)

Collecting your first Gold Bolt in Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart nets you a cool set of wrench skins for Ratchet to use. The options you unlock are:

  • Rebel
  • Q-Force
  • Wasteland
  • Bubblegum
  • Gold

Bolt Replacement (2 Gold Bolts)

Finding two Gold Bolts gives you access to the Bolt Replacement cheat in Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, which switches out the game’s main currency for one a few different choices. These are:

  • Coins
  • Orbs
  • Rubies
  • Overcharge

This Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart cheat adds new minor characters to the in-game Gallery, alongside a description of who they are. You unlock this after finding three Gold Bolts.

Hammer Skins (4 Gold Bolts)

Similar to the first cheat, picking up four Gold Bolts allows you to change Rivet’s hammer skins. The options available while using this are:

  • Rebel
  • Q-Force
  • Wasteland
  • Bubblegum
  • Gold

Photo Mode Pack 1 (5 Gold Bolts)

After collecting five Gold Bolts, this cheat gives you a fun selection of new stickers and frames for use in Photo Mode.

RPG Mode (6 Gold Bolts)

RPG mode is unlocked after you pick up six Gold Bolts. This cheat makes it so that visual damage numbers come off of enemies whenever you hit them, akin to something you might see in an MMORPG.

Ship Skins Pack 1 (7 Gold Bolts)

Once you’ve found seven Gold Bolts throughout Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, you can use the Ship Skins Pack 1 cheat, which gives you access to the following skins for your ship:

  • Rebel
  • Galactic Ranger

Rendering Modes Pack 1 (8 Gold Bolts)

After grabbing eight Gold Bolts, you get access to the Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart cheat, Rendering Modes Pack 1. These put a visual filter over your gameplay, affecting the entire look of the game. In Pack 1, these are:

  • Noir
  • Sepia
  • Mars
  • Home Movie

Music Pack 1 (9 Gold Bolts)

Music Pack 1 is a cheat in Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart that unlocks after picking up nine Gold Bolts in-game. This adds additional music to the jukebox at Zurkie’s.

Photo Mode Pack 2 (10 Gold Bolts)

Just like Photo Mode Pack 1, this cheat gives you access to even more new stickers and frames in Photo Mode. However, you must first collect 10 Gold Bolts.

Change Head Size (11 Gold Bolts)

This fun cheat is a callback to decades of gaming gone by, when the ability to change character head size was pretty commonplace. By collecting 11 Gold Bolts, you can choose between the default head size, tiny heads, or big heads. This effect only applies to Ratchet or Rivet, so you won’t see Captain Quark with a strange head shape any time soon.

Wrench Swap Pack 1 (12 Gold Bolts)

Collecting 12 Gold Bolts in Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart unlocks Wrench Swap Pack 1. This great pack allows you to change Ratchet’s wrench into one of five options:

  • Goon Sword
  • Goon Hammer
  • Pirate Sword
  • Swordfish
  • Key

Hammer Swap Pack 1 (13 Gold Bolts)

If you’re instead playing as Rivet, picking up 13 Gold Bolts allows you to use Hammer Swap Pack 1. These options are as follows:

  • Goon Sword
  • Goon Hammer
  • Pirate Sword
  • Swordfish
  • Key

Home Run Hitter (14 Gold Bolts)

Home Run Hitter is one of the funniest cheats in Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. Once you’ve collected 14 Gold Bolts, you can activate this cheat which allows you to send enemies flying when you defeat them with a melee weapon.

Confetti Craniums (15 Gold Bolts)

The Confetti Craniums cheat in Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is unlocked after grabbing 15 Gold Bolts in-game. This fun cheat makes confetti pop out of enemies’ heads every time you hit them!

Photo Mode Pack 3 (16 Gold Bolts)

Once again, Photo Mode Pack 3 adds plenty more Photo Mode stickers and frames after you’ve found 16 Gold Bolts.

Music Pack 2 (17 Gold Bolts)

As with Music Pack 1, Music Pack 2 adds even more new music to the jukebox at Zurkie’s. This time around, you’ve got to collect 17 Gold Bolts.

Rendering Modes Pack 2 (18 Gold Bolts)

Rendering Modes Pack 2, like its predecessor, adds visual filters that offer unique ways to play Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. This cheat is unlocked after finding 18 Gold Bolts in-game. The filters are:

  • Newsprint
  • Filmic
  • Retro

Some of these make the game quite hard to play normally, so we’d recommend turning them off for regular gameplay. However, they make for some interesting imagery.

Mirror Mode (19 Gold Bolts)

Collecting 19 Gold Bolts in Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart gives you the Mirror Mode cheat. This flips the entire world horizontally, which takes some getting used to. Still, it’s fun as a novelty.

Wrench Swap Pack 2 (20 Gold Bolts)

Wrench Swap Pack 2 is unlocked after you find 20 Gold Bolts in-game, giving you more options to swap out Ratchet’s wrench. These are:

  • Rivet’s Hammer
  • Shovel
  • Broom
  • Pickaxe
  • Skull Sword

Hammer Swap Pack 2 (21 Gold Bolts)

After you’ve taken your total Gold Bolts collection to 21, you can then swap out Rivet’s hammer with several different options. These are:

  • Ratchet’s Wrench
  • Shovel
  • Broom
  • Pickaxe
  • Skull Sword

Ship Skins Pack 2 (22 Gold Bolts)

Ship Skins Pack 2 is unlocked after finding 22 Gold Bolts in-game. This gives you access to two more ship reskins:

  • Wasteland
  • Bubblegum

Infinite Health (23 Gold Bolts)

This is the cheat you’ve been waiting for. When you’ve collected 23 Gold Bolts in Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, you unlock the Infinite Health cheat. Once you’ve unlocked this, the entire game becomes a breeze.

Infinite Ammo (24 Gold Bolts)

If Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart wasn’t easy enough with the Infinite Health cheat, gathering one more Gold Bolt will net you the Infinite Ammo cheat. This does exactly what it says on the tin, removing another layer of challenge from the game.

Gold Weapons (25 Gold Bolts)

Finally, your reward for finding all the Gold Bolts in Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is the Gold Weapons cheat. As you might be able to guess, this turns all of Ratchet and Rivet’s weapons gold. It should be noted that this skin is different than the Gold skin from the first and fourth unlocks, although it does affect the wrench and hammer.
