Red Dead Redemption 2 Cheats & Cheat Codes for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One

Red Dead Redemption 2 is a 2018 open-world game developed and published by Rockstar Games. The game follows the adventures of the van der Linde gang in the dying days of the American West as they attempt to come to terms with the ever-changing world around them. Released on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, the game was instantly hailed as one of the greatest video games ever made, with every single element coming in for massive critical acclaim.

In addition to its critical reception, Red Dead Redemption 2 is also incredibly commercially successful, selling over 53 million copies and counting. Though Rockstar has yet to announce an official follow-up, there’s every likelihood that players will eventually see a third game in the Red Dead Redemption franchise.

In Red Dead Redemption 2, players can do just about anything they’d like at any time. The game spans an enormous five fictional U.S. states, most of which are accessible upon completion of its Prologue. In true Western fashion, you travel the world on horseback. It can be slow, and for some even tedious, but it allows you to really take in the remarkable world Rockstar has brought to life in excruciating detail.

You play as an outlaw, so breaking laws is the name of the game. Much of Red Dead Redemption 2 will be spent on the run from the law, shooting and robbing your way through small towns as you attempt to survive. The game uses a Wanted system that determines your bounties in each state, which you must pay off to remove them. If you don’t, the government will send bounty hunters to track you down and bring you to justice.

Despite the freedom offered by the open world, the main storyline is the real star here. The game offers 109 missions to complete across 6 Chapters and a 2-part Epilogue, as well as a series of Stranger missions that expand the world around you. If you allow yourself to get invested, you’ll discover one of the greatest stories ever to feature in interactive media.

Red Dead Redemption 2 follows the ensemble cast of the van der Linde gang, a group of outlaws who rob and kill their way across the United States. Given how many there are, it’s a miracle the game manages to characterize each of them as perfectly as it does. Above all though, there are four that play a key role above the rest – here are the characters you need to know in Red Dead Redemption 2:

Stars of the van der Linde Gang

  • Arthur Morgan: Arthur Morgan is the protagonist of Red Dead Redemption 2, and is widely considered to be one of the most well-written characters of all time. The game follows Arthur in the last days of his life, as he comes to terms with the decisions and lifestyle that have seen him and his compatriots become some of the most notorious outlaws in the United States. You get to decide the person Arthur becomes with the time he has left.
  • Dutch van der Linde: Dutch is one of the antagonists of Red Dead Redemption 2, serving as the leader of the van der Linde gang. Beginning the game as a friend, the extent of Dutch’s manipulations on the rest of the gang begins to unravel as the law begins to close in across the game.
  • John Marston: John Marston is the protagonist of the original Red Dead Redemption, and the sequel follows him in his earlier years. You get to see how John became the man he went on to be, with the game’s Epilogue focusing on him putting down the foundations for his young family.
  • Micah Bell: Micah is the overall antagonist of the game. He always seems to have the ear of Dutch, causing the eventual downfall of the van der Linde gang. Throughout Red Dead Redemption 2, you’ll make several revelations about Micah’s affiliations that completely change the direction of the story.

The Red Dead franchise has always been something of a black sheep in Rockstar’s catalog. Generally, the games have played second-fiddle to the Grand Theft Auto franchise, which continues to sell in absurd numbers despite no new release for over a decade. The continued success of Grand Theft Auto Online has generally meant less focus on Red Dead Redemption games. However, there are plenty of gamers who would suggest that the Western titles are undoubtedly the higher quality games.

With so many years between the main games in the franchise, it’s clear that Rockstar takes its time with the Red Dead Redemption games, giving them the love and care that they deserve – and it shows.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is quite unique for a 2018 release. It has actual cheat codes that you can enter in order to give yourself the upper hand while traveling around the Wild West, yet by the time the game had released, most other titles had moved on from the classic cheat code format. Not Red Dead Redemption 2.

If you don’t want to use cheat codes in Red Dead Redemption 2, the game also has an infinite money exploit that you can use for some extremely quick cash. Here’s how to do it:

  • First, head to the Sheriff’s Office in Limpany, and open the lockbox found underneath the desk.
  • Take the gold bar from the lockbox, pausing the game during the animation (do not grab the pamphlet first).
  • Save the game, then reload immediately.
  • Return to the lockbox, and repeat those previous steps for a maximum of 30 gold bars.
  • Sell these bars to a fence for $15,000.
  • Return to Limpany to collect more gold bars, and repeat.

It’s extremely easy to pull off, and it doesn’t take long to be able to afford pretty much anything in the game. You’ll be able to get the best horses, weapons, and clothes without robbing your way across the entire map.

Red Dead Redemption 2 Cheat Code FAQs

Does Using Red Dead Redemption 2 Cheat Codes Lock Achievements?

Yes. Although it’s a single-player game, once you use Red Dead Redemption 2 cheat codes you’ll be unable to unlock achievements for the rest of that play session, as it would make it far too easy to unlock some of them.

It doesn’t ruin your save file altogether though. Once you activate these cheat codes in Red Dead Redemption 2, the game simply won’t let you save your progress. This means that the cheat codes are purely to be used for fun, as opposed to making real progress in-game.

Do These Cheat Codes Work in Red Dead Online?

Unfortunately not – you can only use these cheat codes in the single-player of Red Dead Redemption 2. A big reason for that is that Red Dead Online‘s business model relies on the purchase of microtransactions for players to get a quick advantage. In a way, it’s against everything that cheat codes represent.

The only cheats you’ll encounter in Red Dead Online are hackers who can do all kinds of crazy things on the server – including ruining the fun for everyone.

Is There God Mode in Red Dead Redemption 2?

On consoles, there’s no sort of God Mode that you can use for infinite health. There are cheats to refill your health, but you’ll have to use them repeatedly to fully see the advantage of this.

If you’re on PC however, you’re in luck. While there are no cheat codes to speak of, just like consoles, you can instead use a trainer to give yourself infinite health in Red Dead Redemption 2. The most popular one for the game is Rampage Trainer. Once you properly get to grips with it, you can do a whole lot more than just give yourself infinite health, too.
