RUMOR: PlayStation 4 Specs Leaked

First of all, let’s talk about memory. The PS4 will probably feature 8GB of system memory, a huge increase over the 256MB on the PlayStation 3. Similarly, the system will feature 2.2GB of video memory, once again far more than the current 256 MB of the PlayStation 3. The console will contain a 4X Dual-Core AMD64 Bulldozer CPU, an AMD R10XX GPU, 4 USB ports, 2 Ethernet ports, an HDMI out and optical audio outputs. The system will also contain a 160GB hard drive, but this will likely be changed in the final model. Development kits typically get by with smaller hard-drives. The system will also feature a Blu-ray player, which means that game disks won’t be going away any time soon.

Perhaps the most interesting aspect of the Orbis’s design is its new controllers. According to Kotaku, the game will actually link your PlayStation account directly to your controller. Multiple users can be signed in to one console at a time using this system. So, for example, if you bring your controller over to your friend’s house, play a co-op title, and unlock a trophy, both accounts will be updated with the trophy info. Similarly, “game sharing” will be easier, as you will simply have access to any digital content tied to your account as long as you have your controller with you. That way, you can access your entire digital library at your friend’s house as long as you and your controller are physically there. The controllers will also include motion control, a touch pad (like the one on the back of the vita) and a share button, whatever that means.
