Rumor Round-Up: PS3's Exclusive Mirror's Edge DLC, Tecmo and Koei Merger, Lich King Release Date, and more!

None

The Rumor Round-Up summarizes and highlights the most important gaming related gossip over the past week. This weekly article, in conjunction with the Week in Review, will keep you plugged in and in-tune.

Rumors and even false official confirmation have been flying around the Internet. According to the rumors, Mirror’s Edge is going to release on the PS3 with timed exclusivity.

This was immediately debunked by Sony, stating that the game will release for all systems at the same time, but that Sony “has an exclusive marketing agreement with EA regarding the title, and exclusive downloadable content will be offered on the PlayStation Network.”

However, it now looks as though that cat was not supposed to be let out of the bag. Sony has since reneged on their initial confirmation of the existence of exclusive PS3 DLC. We’ll have to wait and see what the final verdict really is.

Last week we reported on the very generous buy-out offer presented by Square Enix to Tecmo. That offer would have paid Tecmo a 30% premium to their share price. This prospective merger also promised to lend the ailing development company a spot of legitimacy in the wake of recent turmoil.

In an unexpected move, Tecmo has decided to shun the Square Enix offer and instead has decided to enter into talks with Koei , makers of Dynasty Warriors (and little else). The merger between these two mid-level companies should help them to rid themselves of redundancies and become more profitable in an increasingly competitive global market.

In a related story, Tecmo’s Team Ninja has announced that they will be churning out three action IPs in the near future. They will make the official reveal of all three new games during October’s Tokyo Game Show. With all the rumblings surrounding their proposed merger, we’re not sure if this will truly pan out or if it’s simply PR spin to generate interest in the Tecmo brand.

Prices for Microsoft’s 120 GB HDD expansion of dropped from $179.99 to $149.99 through Amazon. However, the HDD unit is still listed at the $179.99 price on the official 360 webpage. Consequently, it seems as though this figure may change in the future. $149.99 still seems awfully high, and consumers are beginning to see through the 360 Arcade model’s $199.99 price point.

According to sources close to Kotaku, convenience store 7-Eleven , which will be selling World of Warcraft’s Wrath of the Lich King at a midnight release, has confirmed the release date and price of the game. The title will retail for $39.99 on November 4.

Thanks so much everyone and we will see you next week!
