RUMOR: Smash Bros.-Like Game Headed To PS3

None

PlayStation 3 owners don’t have many reasons to be jealous of Wii owners, especially since the PlayStation Move was released last year. But, Super Smash Bros. Brawl is definitely one of those reasons. However, the rumor mill is churning out reports that Sony has been developing a Smash Bros.-like title starring their most iconic characters.

A brand new developer, called SuperBot, who describes themselves as being “comprised of long-time industry veterans and creative powerhouses who have worked on some of the most groundbreaking and successful titles the games industry has ever seen” has reportedly been put in charge of the title. But no one has officially confirmed that the game even exists.

The rumor mostly stems from a couple of tweets that one of SuperBot’s level designers, Chris Molina, has been behind. Molina posted several cryptic messages, including photos of the staff playing with arcade sticks and a picture of Twisted Metal’s Sweet Tooth. He also posted a link to Sony’s “Michael” trailer, which features several Sony characters, and commented that it is “vaguely foreshadowing our soon to be announced title.”

Sony typically enjoys silencing loudmouth developers, so it shouldn’t surprise anyone that Molina’s Twitter feed has been nuked from the Internet.

The game may or may not be called “Title Fight” and would include a potpourri of Sony characters including those from Uncharted, Twisted Metal, God of War, LittleBigPlanet, Jak and Daxter, and even PaRappa the Rapper. Each of the characters will be rendered in a style that’s appropriate for his/her own world. For instance, Nathan Drake will be three-dimensional and realistic, while PaRappa the Rapper will be entirely two-dimensional.

If these rumors turn out to be true, I’m planning to take on Kratos with PaRappa the Rapper. I’ve always thought that Kratos needed to be taken down a notch, and PaRappa is just the guy to do it.
