Saints Row 4 Developers Believe Wackiness Doesn’t Harm Sales

Anyone who has played a Saints Row game knows that the franchise doesn’t take itself very seriously. Heck, when you can make an incredibly tall woman with an afro fight the enemy with Hulk fists, how serious can you be? OXM recently asked senior producer Jim Boon whether or not he thinks that this wacky tone is holding back the franchises sales and ultimately, the answer was no.

“Ultimately I don’t think that SR’s tone gets in the way of bigger sales. If anything, I think our tone is an element of our success. SR is quite unlike anything else out there, and I think gamers crave unique experiences – I know I do. We have a lot of passionate fans that love SR, so I think we are striking the right chord. Also, I do want to mention that Jason was extremely supportive if SR4 and really liked what we were doing with the game. He would often offer ideas for the game, and those ideas were never suggestions about changing our tone. He was a fan of the series and loved what we were doing.”

Boon went on to say that Saints Row 4 also doesn’t take itself very seriously and, in fact, they think fans would miss the wacky elements if they were to shift the game to a more serious tone. The addition of superpowers certainly doesn’t make the game any less wacky. We will have more details on Saints Row 4’s gameplay when we get to try it out at E3 this year.
