Sega’s Going to Let Us Mod Its Classics

Sega’s Going to Let Us Mod Its Classics

Sega has just announced some big news for fans of its classic games like Golden Axe , Altered Beast , Ecco the Dolphin , and Phantasy Star II . The company is launching a new Sega Mega Drive/Genesis Classics hub on Steam. The hub itself will look like a Sega fan’s room in the 1990s, but this upgrade does much more than just put an extra nostalgia filter over the collection. You’ll be able to play co-op in games that support it, there will be optional graphical enhancement filters, you’ll be able to save anywhere in your games, and full controller and keyboard support is provided.

Most interestingly, however, is Steam Workshop support. This will allow you to share and download modded versions of the supported Sega classics. The hub itself is a free download, and any games you own on Steam will be added to it automatically.

The full list of supported games can be found in Sega’s official announcement . Sorry, hedgehog fans, but there don’t appear to be any Sonic games on the list yet. You can also take a look at the new hub in the trailer below (which includes Sonic the Hedgehog – what gives, Sega?). Although the announcements currently come from Sega Europe, they’re linked on Sega’s main site and social media accounts, so we can assume the hub will be available here in North America, as well.
