Despite all of the launch issues from EA and Maxis, SimCity can be a very enjoyable game. Over 1 million people have already seen the game’s potential. EA announced these impressive sales numbers today via press release.
Additionally, EA and Maxis have announced the following accomplishments from players:
- SimCity players have logged more than 15 million hours of online gameplay.
- More than 5.7 million original cities have been created since launch.
- More than 780 million buildings have been built.
- SimCity mayors, to date, have built enough road and railroad tracks to circle the globe more than 40,000 times.
The game has seen its fair share of controversy, however. Many gamers that frequent internet forums have made their desires for a refund known due to the game’s bugs and technical issues. Also, it’s currently the lowest rated product in Amazon’s history. EA has attempted to make amends with gamers by increasing server capacity by over 400% (I personally believe this), as well as offering some free games to SimCity purchasers.
