Sonic’s 20th Anniversary Celebrated With Song

None

Already, SEGA has promised us Sonic Generations—a game that fuses the Sonic of today with gamers’ memories of the hyper-fast hedgehog’s humble beginnings—and a limited edition figurine of the Blue Blur. Now, in addition to treats for the eyes and shelves, they’re providing one for fans’ ears.

Sonic the Hedgehog is getting a 20th anniversary soundtrack. It is slated to contain all of the music from both Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic the Hedgehog 2, as well as a reprint of the demo tapes from series composer Masato Nakamura.

For Western fans who want to add Sonic to their music collection, though, there may be a measure of disappointment. The soundtrack, due out this summer, has only been announced for release in SEGA’s home country of Japan. Fans of the two-decade-old mascot elsewhere in the world may have to import it or pray for an international release.

With the Ocarina of Time CD, released in tandem with that game’s recent remastering on the 3DS, it does seem that Japanese companies are beginning to extend these offers to their international fans. This provides a measure of hope that we will see this one, too.
