Sony Employee Goes the Extra Mile to Bless a Gamer in Need

Sony Employee Goes the Extra Mile to Bless a Gamer in Need

Here’s a little something to brighten up your Tuesday. Peter Byrne is a gamer like you and me, but his cerebral palsy was getting between him and his games. In a Facebook post Peter said, “When I use the PlayStation 4 controller my game constantly pauses because my left hand hits the touchpad which is frustrating for me.” PlayStation support gave Peter an email address and advised that he explain his problem and wait for a response. Cue the clickbait title: you won’t believe what happened next.

Alex Nawabi, a seriously good dude who works in retail marketing operations for PlayStation, heard Peter’s problem and took it upon himself to come up with a solution. He ended up modifying a one-of-a-kind controller, just for Peter, disabling the touchpad functionality and mapping it instead to a special button on the back. In a letter addressed to Peter that came with the controller, Nawabi mentions that “It took 3 controllers to build, 10+ hours of labor & reworking the concept to bring it to life, and a few moments of frustration…” Peter couldn’t believe the response and the effort made on his behalf. “I honestly got choke up reading the letter as I did not expect anything like this to happen,” he said. “Mr. Nawabi really cared about my situation and did this on his own time to make my experience better. I honestly can’t thank him enough for everything he did for me. Thank you Mr. Nawabi it really means a lot too me!”

Of course, being a badass, Nawabi refused to bask in glory. He was sure to take his 15 minutes of fame to praise the entire R&D team. “Please keep in mind that the Research and Development team at PlayStation is filled with some absolutely astounding individuals who wake up every day and try to come up with a solution for everyone… Their team members are the true MVPs.” What a guy.
