Sony Toying With Virtual Reality

Sony Toying With Virtual Reality

None

With HD 3D graphics becoming the norm, we haven’t heard much about that virtual reality phenomenon of the nineties that was so big during the heyday of the ReBoot TV series. At CES, Sony revealed a peculiar headset that looks like a cross between the visors of Cyclops and Geordi La Forge. The visor includes twin OLED screens that would show a slightly offset picture to each eye, basically giving users an entirely 3D experience.

Now, Sony is looking to push this headset right into the world of virtual relaity with head tracking technology. As of now, the headset is really only usable for passive media, but when combined with motion sensing technology, the set will allow users to look around and experience a game world in full 360 vision. The screens in the visor are capable of 720p visuals and the headset itself comes with built-in 5.1 surround sound, which means this is as close to virtual reality as you are going to get in the near future.

Sony Europe group studio manager Mick Hocking said that Sony is “working with a couple of games at Sony that are experimenting with virtual-reality-type experiences.” Just what those games are, we don’t know, but I personally hope that one day I can experience the awesome violence of being Kratos in a virtual world.
